Renée Austin

Renée graduated from Salem State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. While she attended school, she worked part time in a retail lighting warehouse doing inventory and bookkeeping. After graduating, she moved into a full time position, as an inside salesperson and estimator for a commercial/industrial lighting department. Eventually she transferred over to the retail side, working her way from sales person to manager.

Throughout her 20-year career in lighting, Renée attended many American Lighting Association training classes and seminars. Through that experience, she came to realize that she loves to do lighting design. To her, the best part about her job is that it combines both artistic and technological skills to achieve great results. After all, a wonderfully detailed and finely furnished room would never be seen without light!

Renée worked with Lucy Dearborn for many years, and anyone who knows them, knows they make a fantastic team! Finally having their own showroom to fill with beautiful lights, sharing their passion for lighting with the lucía staff and customers, and helping our clients "see the light" is like a dream come true for both women.

In her spare time, Renée likes to kick back on her boat, Sandpiper, with her husband, Russ; in the winter they enjoy skiing. She also relaxes by running (she has run the Boston Marathon!), doing yoga and painting. Renée is also a member of the Salem Cultural Council, and is a volunteer mentor with Children's Friend and Family in Salem.

  • Favorite room at Lucia: The Gallery - I love the idea of local artists having such a beautiful stage to display their talent. I can't think of a better way to help people understand the many fine choices for lighting artwork.
  • Favorite lampshade: Holtkotter's #2545 - I like the diamond pattern cut into the fabric. It's a lovely detail on a simple silk shade that makes it unique!
